Hiking at Bluff Creek

Finally we are being blessed with some beautiful weather! We took advantage of it this morning and spent some time hiking and picnicking at Bluff Creek park. The boys love exploring the hiking trails riding their scooters on the sidewalk trail. We never fail to have exciting adventures!

Jack's Patriotic Assembly

Jack was a flag holder in the Olympics assembly today at school! He was very excited and told me that I have to cheer for Canada in the Olympics now. :) It was also Jack's birthday month so he was honored along with the other February birthday kids.

Jack is SEVEN!!

Wow. Seven. I cannot believe I have been a mommy for seven years. Jack was born at 11:02 pm on this day in 2007. It was an amazing day. I have loved being a mommy, specifically Jack's mommy. He is such a blessing and amazes me every day. I have grown and changed so much because of this little guy.

Jack at this age is truly settling into his personality. He is a born leader. He is a perfectionist and really enjoys being right and figuring things out on his own. This works well for him most of the time because he is brilliant, but can be a flaw the few times he is wrong because he becomes easily frustrated with himself and the person who had the nerve to point out his error. :/ Jack amazes me with his intelligence. He remembers everything. Seriously. He can tell me what we had for lunch that one day two years ago when so and so came over to our house and ridiculous facts like that! He has a math brain and can multiply and divide easily on his own even though they have not learned this at school. When he finds an new interest, he really devotes himself to it and wants to learn everything he can. Some of his latest interests are: astronomy, animals of all kinds but sharks and tigers mostly, dinosaurs, geography of the U.S. and the world, and sports. He asks question after question about these topics so to answer him, we have read many books together, used our telescope and our globe to death, and played games and apps on these topics. I love his curiosity and I learn right along with him! I am excited to begin homeschooling with him next year. He enjoys school but it will be nice for him to be able to go at his own pace, moving on after he "gets" something. Not to mention, more time for playing. ;)

Jack loves to play. He loves to use his imagination. He could play by himself for hours with just a couple of toys, imagining all sorts of scenarios. Currently he plays with Star Wars toys, Jake and the Pirates, cars, airplanes, etc. His favorite movies are Robin Hood, The Sword and the Stone, and Ice Age at the moment. These movies inspire his imagination as well. He also loves playing with friends. He enjoys playing tag or pretending to be spies. He loves throwing the football around. He loves running races and riding bikes.

Jack loves reading. He is reading chapter books and can get through a short one in a couple of hours. I am thankful for the library because we could never keep up if we were buying all of the books! I love that he loves to read and hope that this continues! He even reads to his brothers which is helpful because they love to be read to as well.

Jack has such a tender heart. He is very sensitive which is such a good quality but it is hard on him and on me as well. It is good in that he is still cuddly at seven. He's still a momma's boy and says he will never, ever grow up and move away. ;) However, he is mature in a sense, in that he sees the world as it really is, full of pain and injustice and he really aches for these things. He is kept up at night sometimes thinking about the suffering of the world and has often said to me, "Mommy, I wish there were no sin and that the world wasn't broken!" Me too. Although I love his compassion, there are many times that I wish he had some of the blissful ignorance that Graham has so that he could live in that childhood innocence for a bit longer.

The sensitivity allows Jack to have a deep understanding about spiritual things and he is very interested in the Bible and how it makes sense of the world he lives in. We have listened to the Jesus Storybook Bible over and over again on loop in the car and he just can't get enough. Jack gave his life to Jesus this past year and I am so proud of his sweet heart, his love for God and gratefulness for what has been done for him through Christ. His faith does help relieve his concerns because he knows that there is hope both in this life and beyond this broken world and that this is not all there is. Can you imagine if that weren't the case?!

I love this little boy so much and am so thankful for him. This one is going to be a world changer.

Jack's Laser Tag Party

Jack has been planning his seventh birthday party for a year now. The first time he stepped inside Laser Quest, he knew he wanted to have his party there. And today the big day finally arrived. It was supposed to be a very special day complete with a basketball game in the morning, his party in the afternoon, and the OU game with BB and Grandad and Graham in the evening. The game this morning went great! Our kids played their best game of the season. However after that there were some unfortunate happenings. FOUR of his friends had to back out of the party last minute due to illness. Then Mumo became ill and had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance (again). It was a stressful day to say the least. Thankfully, the kids were mostly oblivious. Even though Jack was disappointed and missing a few friends, we had a blast with those who were there and Jack had the perfect party with the perfect football cake. And later on, my mom did decide to go to the OU game, which was great because it was determined that Mumo's symptoms were not as serious as we suspected and she will be fine for now. Hopefully the boys are having a great time and cheering hard for the Sooners.
